I do hope they get reprimanded by the BON. I would refuse to give the vaccine if they asked me to reuse syringes. That's awful!!!!

Was this a real nurse, or one of those MAs that call themselves (or allow others to call them) nurses? Either way, baaaad.

SUCH a violation of standard of care. Some malpractice guys in the area are probably salivating largely.

I applied for one of those flu shot positions years ago and was royally pissed when the company never called me back to set things up. Reading this, I'm actually glad that they overlooked me. Maybe during the interview they noticed that I'm not the kind of nurse to go along with funny business.

I read somewhere (yeah real helpful) she was an LPN and was being investigated by the NJ BoN.

I've been trying to visualize what she must have done to use 67 needles and 2 syringes. Take some 10ml multi-dose flu vaccine vial, fill a 10ml syringe, put on a 25ga needle, push some dose, discard needle, replace with a fresh needle, repeat.

Or take a 1ml syringe, withdraw dose, give dose, discard needle, replace with fresh needle, insert in vial, draw next dose, repeat.

I've never given flu shots and haven't paid that much attention when I got one, but this year I did. They used a single dose syringe and needle combo, opened it in front of me, gave dose and discarded.

That's the way we give them in my facility. Adacel, Prevnar, etc.

Ok, I give TONS of flu shots, I mean a royal LOAD of flu shots, and never can imagine doing this.

Last year we got multi-dose vials, so drew up our own doses to administer. But I wouldn't have saved any time in REUSING a syringe; how difficult or time-consuming is it to pop open a new package? When you know there are a bazillion there, because you are giving a bazillion shots??

This year we have all single-dose syringes, have to put on a fresh needle for each one. Which IS a timesaver for me, in not having to measure out dosages from a multi-use vial. Which I happen to LOVE LOVE LOVE!

She was an LPN, which unfortunately hurts the 'nurse' cred. Can't pawn this one off on the MAs who usually are the reason for our bad press. Nope...this one is ours
