Thumbs up Paperless perscribing?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081215/..._prescriptions

WASHINGTON ? The push for paperless prescriptions is about to get a boost: Starting in January, doctors who e-prescribe can get bonus pay from Medicare.
For patients, the benefits are obvious ? from shorter drugstore waits to increased safety, as pharmacists no longer squint to decipher doctors' messy handwriting.

Ditching paper = money saved = ecofriendly.

I love it.

I'm all for it.

Oh, not to mention how much safer it will be !

I'm all for that. No more losing the blasted thing between the doc's office and the drug store, either.

One of my docs does it. It is VERY convienient. Especially because we do mail order drugs so we, for all my other docs, have to take the script and mail it off to them, wait for it to get there, them to process it, then send out the drugs. Now he just sends it in and we are good to go.

I like it, they do it at the VA here. The one time they sent my husband outside of their system w/a written script NO ONE could read the thing.

It will also cut down on prescription fraud which is a huge problem where I live. People break into dr's offices here all the time to steal the prescription pads and because the handwriting is usually so bad, its usually not caught until some pharmacist realizes they've seen the same person 4x in a week or if they know certain MDs already and know they would not write out those quantities.

We have computer generated scripts here now, but not e-scribe ones as yet.

I think it is a wonderful idea. Only problem: would you only be able to go to the one pharmacy, where the script has been e-d to?

Scripts can be transferred from one place to another. It happens all the time when people move or they change pharmacies for a better price or more convenient location.

though not all pharmacies will let you transfer out. A VERY large chain didnt allow me to transfer mine out to my little local one after i had issues, I had to get all new scripts from all the docs.
