Default Nursing ranks as one of the worst jobs to have

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123119236117055127.html

Gah I cannot get the table to format correctly but we scored 185 out of 200.

Not only that but the pay can be subpar, the hours are long and often not consistent if you do shift work, the toll it takes on your body--lifting, etc, and finally you are working around toxins and infectious waste.

Still, I can't imagine doing anything else. My brain is geared to think critically. It's physically demanding no doubt and you can emotionally burn out if you have no support system, which is why this site was created!th_4285

Nursing is so diverse. If you get burnt out you can do something else. The days of the week are negoticiable, as are days and nights, it's infinately diverse, you can work 3 days a week, off 4.

I get paid more in a 12 hour shift than others make working minimum wage all week. I love nursing It can be stressful but hell life in general is stressful.

I love nursing too, but one can only go so far if one is burnt out. And usually it means a drop in wages, because of the loss of penalty pay; unless you intend to do extra study, which costs money.

I'm not surprised that nursing is such a 'bad' profession. One really needs to know what one is 'getting into'. That article only lists LPNs. I was an EN for 18 years and totally agree with it. RNs aren't listed at all! Are those of us who are RNs even further down the scale??

Found it!

Registered Nurses come in at 162 on the scale! And I totally agree that LPNs come in further down. ENs here basically do the same work, but for less pay...

Now when they say your pay is 62 000, is that like a base rate of pay? Or is it an average? Does it incorporate penalties?

All I got to say is as an LPN I made more working part time than is listed for full time in the US. Even factoring in the exchange rates.
