Saw a part of it on CNN earlier but my son changed the channel. So sad.

Elderly ppl should not have to experience this at the time of their lives where they are supposed to relax and be away from stress. Their families must be horrified as well.

The nurses would have gone to work...'another day', and not only had to cope with the loss of their colleagues, but also supporting their patients. Then I'm sure they would have gone home and fallen in pieces.

I just read about it in the local newspaper. Now that I'm a nurse, the situation is somewhat closer to me. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected, especially to family, friends and fellow nurses of RN Jerry Avant. He has gone to a better place but probably a lot sooner than everyone expected ....

I did work in a NH for about 6 months in 2007 as a 3-11 supervisor-I can't imagine the horror of this. Makes the little spit fights the CNA's and kitchen workers had pale by comparison. My thoughts and prayers, too, go out to the families and especially the nurses and staff working there that now have to put on the bravado and pick up the pieces and go on..............I imagine there will be some psych nursing going on as well.

I forsee locked doors with a need to "buzz" people into SNF's in the future. No one should be able to walk into an isolated building full of old folks and women, where there is NO security personnel [like in a hospital].

I am saddened but not surprised..except that it didn't happen sooner. th_crying

This story just breaks my heart, those poor dear elderly people having to go through such horror.
My prayers go out to all the families of those residents that were killed as well as the nurse.
Just sickens my heart.
