Y'know, you go to work (maybe don't even feel like going in that day) and you're probably thinking about doing something later, when you get home. Or you remember you haven't sent that email to your mother you'd been meaning to....or whatever.

But you go to work, and you begin your usual stuff (in this case, prepping a pre-op patient) and you hear a commotion. You're curious, so you go toward the noise, thinking you could help with a problem.

And BANG.

You're stuck in the chest with a knife, and you die. That's it.

Never got to send that email, never got to do that thing you were looking forward to when you got back home. You never get to go back home. You went to work when you didn't feel like it, because that patient needed you to be there.

I just have a hard time grasping this.

Oh my I just saw this thread, what a dreadful incident and I feel so sad for the RN that lost her life and her family. I so agree with you MDP, very hard time understanding or grasping how easily this happened.

To go to work and do what you love in assisting those that needed your expertise to only have your life cut short is nothing short of tragic.

Praying for her family at such a sad time and devastating way to lose their loved one.

It's very small compensation to say, or even to think, that at least she was doing a meaningful job that she loved. I haven't read the article yet because this computer has s whenever I try clicking on links, so I don't really know all the circumstances. It makes me wonder, though, who was asleep at the switch in the first place that this sort of thing could have even happened?
