Default There are few things worse in nursing.....

...than a woman who screams, "No, Dad, no!" at the top of her lungs every time you have to clean her genital area.

Took care of a terminal cervical cancer victim last night. Under 60 years old, hemorrhaging, may have developed a fistula....in other words a HOT MESS, poor thing. We can't not clean her, but feeling like we're making her relive torture no girl should ever face every time really sucked.

I hope her dad can hear her from that spit in Hell.

(edited because I realized info was probably too identifying)

I used to hear that every night back on my AIDS unit. The patient was one those incredibly disruptive addicts whose behavior was so bad she was kept on a locked unit until she became too end-stage to do anything but mouth off. Look up "drug seeker" and you'll find this woman's picture.

It takes a long time to die of AIDS and her room was directly across from the nurses' station. For weeks we had to listen to her weeping in her sleep, saying "No, daddy - don't". I agree ... A special place in hell.

Oh my, how very sad!

When I read the title of the thread, I misread it as "there are a few things worse than nursing"...meaning you were going to name some of those jobs none of us would want to have (the guy with the flag in the center of the road while roadwork is going on comes to mind).

Anyway....I'm sure it's a good thing that YOU were there for her. Poor thing.

I always thought I'd enjoy being a flagger. They get paid pretty well here in WA I hear. You're outdoors, get to wave to people, are doing important, but uncomplicated work.

Maybe. Some days I think I'd PAY to just stand there waving and holding a flag, instead of what I HAVE to do! But then I see them out there when it's 100 degrees....or 30...and think NO WAY.
