Default Finding Nurse Ratchet

So, at my new job I've identified the Nurse Ratchet. She was a B#*ch at shift change. The tech complained to management, people came to me for my take on it. I never spoke to the DNS, but she got my story through nursing supervisor.

I came in early today and she apologized. I told her that I didn't report her, I recommended that she hold her tongue in front of patients and families. Told her I never complain unless there's a pattern of behavior. The husband of the patient had remembered her from a previous encounter and given her a dressing down while I was putting info in the computer.

Apparently, this gal is the Nurse Ratchet of this tiny hospital. Good to know.

She worked on a med/surg- ortho floor, which is enough to make you crabby. She had thin hair and too much blus- or was that anger coloring her cheeks? as she watched us upstarts (with a mere 18 years experience) run the floor. She had the years, not the cred. Nit picker to the T. The anti COB.

We had an evening charge nurse in my first ICU who used to make "housekeeping rounds" to make sure all our rooms were tidy. She was such a bitch about it, used to do it unannounced and usually right after a big GI bleed thrash or a stat in-the-room thoracotomy, the kind where there's blood on the walls. One night we were ready for her and our rooms were perfect. She was obviously so frustrated that she dinged one of us for ....

having too many pens in the cup on the desk. Honest to god, what a nutball.

So, Nurse Ratchet apologized to me. It was a qualified apology. She thought I had reported her, I informed her that I did not, that I hadn't been there long enough to see a pattern of behavior.

I told her that she should be more careful about how she talks in front of the patients and their families.
