Default Doctors are frustrated as well

One of the docs at my old job stopped by to for a short visit the other day when he was passing through. I went Per Diem there in favor of a more civilized workplace and still pick up shifts.

Their contract is up for renewal. One of the docs is actually considering my new workplace, a level 5 ER in a cool little resort town. This doc is looking around too, considering locum work. He travels from a remote part of the state anyways, and tries to only work part time.

Basically, the docs are getting fed up the same as we are. Assembly line medicine run by a for profit corporation sucks. There's been an exodus of nurses from the department, so now the docs have a plethora of new grad ER nurses to deal with too, and a sense that they are on a sinking ship. The nurse manager quit as well.

Meanwhile, CEOs reap huge bonuses for driving costs down while loudly proclaiming that they are committed to excellence.

Pretty damned disgusting, not to mention another disheartening example of what our once-proud country is coming to. People are getting good and sick and tired of it, though, the way that corporations and the big-money boys have their fat, dirty fingers in everything. Just as an example, my state just had a vote trying to legalize recreational marijuana here the other day. It was expected to do well but it tanked by a significant majority. The most common reason given: business plan. Nobody wanted to have a handful of rich jerks monopolizing the market, which is what would have happened.

I guess that next time they'll try to pass a medical pot vote first. People seem to be more accustomed to having anything medical handled by monopolies these days, anyway.

my daughter is a physician, she has a college education, masters degree, medical degree, 4 years residency, and now 2 years fellowship, she has loans which are higher than most mortgages, and makes less then nurses. She works 36 hours in a row with 12 hours off. They have to deal with patient satisfaction and politics and lateral violence.

That patient satisfaction crap makes me want to vomit. I can't believe how I keep getting those bloody Press-Ganey surveys in my e-mail every time I have to see a doctor.
