STILL this cat has a uti??
Man....just shy of three hundred bucks and two weeks' worth of stuffing pills down his throat, and still it lingers.
He stopped the inappropriate urinating thing for about a week (probably while the atx shot had the most effect, weakest bugs, whatever). So we figured "yay", all good now.
Nope.
A few days ago he starting peeing in the little crate that we use to store newspapers for recycling. Ok, caught that fast, removed the crate. Then he peed on the floor in front of DH; that was a clue he was either officially brain dead (cat, not dh!!!) or he was still "ailing".
I opted for the latter, called the vet, picked up the No-Sorb fake cat litter, dumped it into a plastic box and asked the cat to pee for a sample. (By the way, this is the part that those of you who were NOT watching this thread a few weeks back are probably most confused over LOL). Yes, twice now, I have spoken nicely to the cat and said "please, just pee in the box, just a LITTLE bit of pee, please, you can do it"....and darned if Jack didn't squat and squeeze some out in the designated spot.
So I'll deliver the sample for another UA (and another $46, if memory serves me correctly). And then I can expect another round of antibiotics.....this cat has cost me a fortune! (he's the same cat who had an ORIF of a busted leg two years ago, about three grand all told).
Next time, it's a FISH.....

It could be too much magnesium in his food causing the UTI's. Ask your vet about a food for urinary tract health. He may need the Prescription Diet for a bit. Cheaper than ABX. Also if memory serves there is a herbal prevention for feline urinary health ( I believe it ia cranberry like for people with something else).

Well, that was part of the original testing, looking for crystals in the urine, an imbalance, something that would suggest a food change. I actually expected to hear that we should switch to one of the pricey Vet Foods, but he didn't think it was necessary.
Guess we'll see what happens with this go-round...

Usually if you switch to the very $$$$ vet diets, you do not have to do it long term though.

Aw hell, why don't I just feed the cat 14K gold flakes? Maybe with a side of filet mignon? Really, it's starting to feel like he's his own line item on my monthly expenses!
Sigh....well, I'm going to do what I gotta....

Does he eat canned food? If not, you might want to start him on it, since it does provide at least some hydration. Many cats do not drink a lot of water.
